Before school started, MP found herself with no childcare and a deadline to meet. A friend recommended taking CP#1 and #2 to Smudge Art Studio in Freeport—a creative space for kids. To MP’s delight and surprise, owner Sarah Jacobs will entertain little ones with art projects for two hours. Parents are free to go!

CP#1 and #2 were wide-eyed when they entered the studio. Smudge is the rare place where a kid can paint on the walls and get their hands sticky without Mom or Dad having a panic attack. The CP kids spent the first few minutes spraying the wall with food coloring and water. MP is certain they didn’t even notice her leave.

MP is a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to shopping for the kids’ fall and winter clothes. She’s the mom who shops for coats when the thermometer drops below 40º. Sometimes waiting to the last minute pays off in form of a sale. Par exemple: this Friday and Saturday’s Polarn O. Pyret Sample & Warehouse Sale at Simply Scandinavian in Portland.

Haven’t heard of Polarn O. Pyret? Known in Sweden as PO.P, the company sells clothing for babies, children, and stylish moms-to-be. MP particularly loves PO.P’s dedication to quality and design (oh, and their signature stripes).

This car top has CP#2 written all over it.

MP loves the button detail on this denim, baby dress.

Who could resist this fun, geometric hat..?

… or these super cute boots?

This bold-striped tunic is chic and functional.

Visit the PO.P sale at Simply Scandinavian and get up to 75% off their fabulous selection of clothing, outerwear, and accessories. While you’re there, shop Simply Scandinavian, too. The  shop carries brands that are known for great design, including Baby Bjorn and Stokke, plus fun paper mobiles and children’s books.

Polarn O. Pyret Warehouse & Sample Sale

CP#1 and her friend, R., have a few things in common: the girls like to sing and dance; they love dress up; and they’re always game for adventure. So you can imagine the level of excitement at our house when R. invited us to this weekend’s Fairy House Tour in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The event takes place in the city’s historic South End. Children are invited to wear wings, tutus, and all manner of fairy garb for the festivities (adults can too if the spirit moves them).

Last weekend, the team said good-bye to summer in true, Cute Potato fashion. We camped at Recompense, visited Toots Ice Cream (twice), hiked Bradbury Mountain, and cheered the Portland Sea Dogs with friends. One of our favorite outings was a visit to The Scarborough Marsh Audubon. Families with kids 4-up can rent canoes by the hour and explore the marsh (life jackets are available, too). CP#2 loved being in the canoe. He paddled for a few minutes, and then left the steering to Mom. We both had fun spotting sandpipers on shore. (more…)

While on a family road trip, a sign for fresh peaches caught MP’s eye. We turned off the main road and found ourselves at the Snell Family Farm in Bar Mills. Before we even reached the farm stand, the kids were running towards the farm’s small, manmade ponds, which were filled with lily pads, water lilies, and to the team’s delight… frogs!
