Last weekend, the team said good-bye to summer in true, Cute Potato fashion. We camped at Recompense, visited Toots Ice Cream (twice), hiked Bradbury Mountain, and cheered the Portland Sea Dogs with friends. One of our favorite outings was a visit to The Scarborough Marsh Audubon. Families with kids 4-up can rent canoes by the hour and explore the marsh (life jackets are available, too). CP#2 loved being in the canoe. He paddled for a few minutes, and then left the steering to Mom. We both had fun spotting sandpipers on shore.
After canoeing, the team enjoyed the Audubon’s modest, educational center. CP#2 discovered a painted, sensory box that he could place his hand inside to guess the contents. CP#1 busied herself with paper mache paw prints that she could press into sand to make tracks. And both kids enjoyed playing a true and false game, where they learned fun facts about fish and birds.
This Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11, is the last weekend to rent canoes for the season, so be sure to stop by with your team. Can’t make to Scarborough this weekend? Enjoy the nature trails at Scarborough Marsh throughout the fall.
