CP#1 and her friend, R., have a few things in common: the girls like to sing and dance; they love dress up; and they’re always game for adventure. So you can imagine the level of excitement at our house when R. invited us to this weekend’s Fairy House Tour in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The event takes place in the city’s historic South End. Children are invited to wear wings, tutus, and all manner of fairy garb for the festivities (adults can too if the spirit moves them).
At the event, kids can enjoy a performance by the Southern New Hampshire Dance Theatre, experience the bubble machine, and visit fairy houses made by local artisans. Tracy Kane, author of the popular Fairy House series, will be meeting young guests and signing copies of her books. If your family still has energy to spare after touring the festival, admission to the South End’s historic homes and gardens are free during the event.
Young guests are also invited to design their own fairy house on Peirce Island (where free parking is available). We can’t think of a better way to end the day.
