One of the things MP loves about living in Maine is that a hot evening can be made bearable by picnicking seaside. With this thought in mind, the family visited Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth—one of our favorite places to dine outdoors.

DP fired up the charcoal grill, while the kids explored the rocks with their grandmother. Each picnic spot is private and tucked away between hedges and beach roses. There are walking trails and open green spaces throughout the park (perfect for an impromptu game of kickball). And the view? Spectacular.

Note: While these events have come and gone, libraries are always a great resource for family films, crafts, yoga classes and so much more fun! To find a Maine library near you, visit here.

Like everyone else, we’ve been struggling through this long stretch of gray weather. MP doesn’t know what she would do without the free events our nearby libraries have available. Today, the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick will save us from cabin fever with a program from Chewonki, featuring cool reptiles including a green iguana, an alligator, and a box turtle. And in the near future, we hope to discover the story and craft hour at the library in Falmouth.

To help you plan what to do when it rains, MP has put together a list of possible activities throughout the state:

If your family happens to be in Kennebunkport, and you find yourselves exploring Dock Square, we recommend going directly to Daytrip Jr. The inviting shop is a Cute Potato favorite. When MP visits, she can’t help but think of A Christmas Story, when Ralphie and friends have their noses pressed against the glass at Higbee’s Department Store window, gaping in awe at its marvelous contents.
