MP has always had a thing for terrariums — glass containers that hold a miniature garden. Much like a fairy house, there is something magical about a terrarium. So you can imagine her delight when she came across this D.I.Y. Terrarium Kit from landscaper Kyle Moran. Each kit comes with marble chips, organic soil, dehydrated moss, wood pieces and a miniature animal figurine (in our case, a small otter).

Illustrator Hannah Rosengren designed the labels for the jars.

How did Valentine’s Day sneak up on us so fast? Our family loves to make homemade gifts and cards for friends and loved ones. Here are a few favorites:

1. A healthier version of Peppermint Patties that is so easy to make.

2. Make your own decorative stamps for cards with this simple egg carton craft.

3. A DIY Book of Love is such a sweet keepsake.

4. Kids can make their own crayons for classmates (try a heart-shaped silicon mold).

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Ah, snow days! Our family loves being snowed in, especially during December. The team spends our day baking and making all sorts of wonderful things for Christmas. We drink hot chocolate and eat a few too many cookies. We take naps. We play outside. Days like these are a gift.

Here are some of our favorite holidays projects, designed with snowy December days in mind:

1) Cookies for Friends 2) Cinnamon Dough Ornaments 3) Santa Puppet 4) Mason jar snow globes

Happy making everyone!

Last Christmas, CP#1 and MP signed up for a kids’ wreath making workshop at O’Donals Nursery in Gorham. The nursery provides decorative greens and wreath making supplies for a small fee. When we arrived, there were long tables filled with boughs of White Pine, Cedar, and Balsam. Jeff O’Donal, our patient instructor, showed us how to arrange the greens in a fan shape before placing them on a wreath ring.

Thanks to everyone who entered the Cute Potato Mother’s Day giveaway! MP is so glad that there are stylish moms out there who adore Kate’s jewelry designs as much as she does. She hopes everyone will be equally enthusiastic about her Kickstarter campaign to create her own traveling jewelry shop. We can’t wait to see her refurbished vintage trailer this summer!

Without further ado, congrats goes to Alexandra Lowery, who likes Kate’s beaded hoop earrings in emerald best. Speaking of favorites, if you’re looking for something for the kids to make for a special grandmother or aunt, here’s some of our best Mother’s Day crafts from over the years:

1. Memory Jar

2. Patchwork Flowerpot

3. Garden Gift

4. Backyard Birdhouse

We hope you’ll enjoy creating something special with your potatoes. Happy Mother’s Day all! xo, MP

Last year, MP was flipping through the pages of the Pottery Barn Kids catalog and a sweet Easter tree caught her eye. Inspired, MP decided to try creating a similar tree with the kids.
