Our friends and sponsors at Daytrip Jr. are generously offering a Cute Potato reader the chance to win a Classic Walker Wagon from Radio Flyer. This little wagon is a sentimental favorite in our family. CP#1 and #2 used it in the backyard when they were first beginning to walk. The two have pushed stuffed animals, dolls, and even cousins in the wagon.

When the kids were toddlers and winter was at its worst, we’d clear the cars from our garage and let them ride around in circles. The activity didn’t seem like much, but CP#1 and #2 always had a blast. MP is certain her duo would have loved this award-winning Spherovelo ride-on toy. Designed for children ages 10-24 months, the Spherovelo can be stabilized for little ones who are just getting their footing, and later, once the stabilizers are removed, it helps children learn to balance while they ride.

Our friends at Daytrip Jr. have generously offered a Spherovelo (valued at $105) to one lucky reader. All you need to do is comment below. Contest ends Friday, January 23 at midnight EST. Good luck!

Congratulations to lucky #4—Jeanne Meyers! Jeanne has won the Spherolvelo scooter from Daytrip Jr.

PS: Indoor go-carts for big kids.

MP will admit, there are so many gift guides online, it’s enough to overwhelm even the most enthusiastic holiday shopper. However, it’s hard not to give the talented artisans we have in Maine a shout out. There is something about giving a handmade gift from home that makes the holidays extra special. Here are a few favorites:

This nightlight from The Orange Chair Studio in Rockland would be a cute addition to a girl’s room — no matter her age.

A friend recently invited us to Camp Ketcha, a non-profit in Scarborough that fosters environmental education, for their annual Fairy House Festival. The spacious campground is an ideal place for kids to roam and play. We brought along our own Fairy House Kit from from fairy house expert and writer Liza Gardner Walsh. The wooden kit contains everything a kid needs to build a house: feathers, sea glass, soft moss, and of course, glittery fairy dust! The wonderful staff at Camp Ketcha also had supplies on hand like Forsythia branches and pinecones. The CP kids were in fairy house heaven!

Jessica Jenkins, the owner of Daytrip Jr. in Kennebunkport, guest blogs today. If you haven’t already, follow Daytrip on Facebook. Jessica is a wonderful source of ideas for kids and families. We’re so happy to have her here! Take it away Jessica….

In search of a winter activity to cure our cabin fever, the Daytrip Society family packed our hats, coats, and snow pants and headed north toward the Saco Heath Preserve. We spotted some amazing photos of the preserve from the summer and fall, so we took our chances that the trail would be passable in winter.

When we arrived, we were happy to find the parking lot open! We entered the trail and walked along the snow-covered boardwalk which zigzagged about half-mile to where the trail opens up to the Heath (aka a bog). My husband and I were glad for our last minute decision to throw a sled into the car, so our 4-1/2 year old could get a tow whenever she needed it!

What’s not to love about a day devoted to local toy stores? One of our favorite shops, Rainbow Toys in Falmouth, is hosting a daylong event this Saturday to celebrate! The lovely staff promises all kinds of free fun for kids. There will be arts and crafts, face painting, and a giant outdoor game of chess.

The store is also raffling off a Rainbow Loom and bands (which are popular in the CP household these days), a Star Wars Lego set, books, stuffed animals, and craft kits from Alex Toys.

If you’re not near to Rainbow Toys, there are many independent toy shops throughout Maine: Island Treasure Toys, Planet Toys, Stone Soup, Out on a Whimsey, Percy’s Burrow, Bella Luna Toys, Treehouse Toys, and more. To find a toy store near your town, try this handy link.
