How is it that Sunday Mother’s Day already? If you’re anything like MP, you’re shopping for a thoughtful gift just a few days before. Here are a few local favorites:

Signature Westport Leather Clutch

This clutch has a few good things going for it. First, MP loves this bag for its simple, classic style. The interior is deep, making it easy to store your wallet, makeup and a few additional essentials inside. And the best part? There’s a handy, zipper storage compartment on the outside of the bag for your cell phone.

Holy cow. This is a busy time of year! MP is trying her best to slow down and enjoy the season, but it’s easy to get swept up in the holiday hubbub. There’s our daily routine to maintain coupled with holiday parties, cards to order, trees to light, cookies to make and gifts to buy — all good things for certain, but it can be hard for a parent to keep up!

Thankfully, we live in a state where there are so many beautifully made gifts available to us, it’s easy to check a few items off the holiday to-do list. And it feels good to support our local makers!

MP found this letterpress Easter greeting while shopping at Royal River Books in Yarmouth. When she turned the card around, she learned it was made in Swans Island by a company called Saturn Press.

Jessica Jenkins, the owner of Daytrip Jr. in Kennebunkport, guest blogs today. If you haven’t already, follow Daytrip on Facebook. Jessica is a wonderful source of ideas for kids and families. We’re so happy to have her here! Take it away Jessica….

In search of a winter activity to cure our cabin fever, the Daytrip Society family packed our hats, coats, and snow pants and headed north toward the Saco Heath Preserve. We spotted some amazing photos of the preserve from the summer and fall, so we took our chances that the trail would be passable in winter.

When we arrived, we were happy to find the parking lot open! We entered the trail and walked along the snow-covered boardwalk which zigzagged about half-mile to where the trail opens up to the Heath (aka a bog). My husband and I were glad for our last minute decision to throw a sled into the car, so our 4-1/2 year old could get a tow whenever she needed it!

The Cute Potato family is having the busiest August on record. We’re moving to a new house, hosting summer guests, and preparing to take on an exciting new project (more on all in future posts). With so much happening, MP asked Jessica Jenkins, our friend and sponsor from Daytrip Jr., to guest blog. Jessica and her crew recently traveled to the Kennebunk Plains to pick wild blueberries. Here’s their story:

Kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk… it’s blueberry season in Maine!* The staff at Daytrip Society is always on the look out for fun, all-ages nature spots. We’ve heard more than a story or two about the bountiful, blueberry harvests and rare flowers in the Kennebunk Plains, but we had yet to visit ourselves. We grabbed our hats, berry baskets, and bug spray and prepared for adventure.

If your family happens to be in Kennebunkport, and you find yourselves exploring Dock Square, we recommend going directly to Daytrip Jr. The inviting shop is a Cute Potato favorite. When MP visits, she can’t help but think of A Christmas Story, when Ralphie and friends have their noses pressed against the glass at Higbee’s Department Store window, gaping in awe at its marvelous contents.
