If you follow this blog, you know our family is game to try most any outdoor activity, at least once. We’ve been curious about fat tire biking ever since we spotted the bikes while cross-country skiing a few winters ago. Nowadays, it seems fat tire bikes are more prevalent than ever before. When MP spotted that Harris Farm in Dayton was offering a free fat tire biking demo with Kennebunkport Bicycle Company, she jumped at the chance to go.

For CP#1’s 10th birthday, our family decided to venture into Portland for the afternoon and treat ourselves to homemade sodas at Vena’s Fizz House. The cozy corner soda bar, which is located on Fore Street, is open to all ages. And while Vena’s specializes in mocktails and cocktails (served only from 7-11 p.m.), the menu has craft sodas and lemonades for the younger set.

When we arrived, a group of tourists and friends were enjoying drinks, and a young couple at a high hat table sat beside us. MP and the kids scanned the menu and decided on a Blackberry Coconut Fruit Fizz, a Raspberry Lime Rickey made with fresh-squeezed lime juice, and a chocolate cream soda naturally sweetened with honey. Last weekend, we visited the East Point Sanctuary in Biddeford Pool. The sanctuary, which was donated to the Maine Audubon in the late seventies, is tucked away, but once we spotted cars parked on the road, we knew our destination couldn’t be far. Our team followed a short, woodland trail that parallels the Abenakee golf course. The trail opens to green pasture with sweeping ocean views. Wood Island Lighthouse also dots the skyline.
