The holidays are fast approaching, and as long as you’re running around getting ready, you might as well indulge in one of Maine’s best treats. The Gelato Fiasco, which is located in Portland and Brunswick, is best known for its creamy, inspired flavors of gelato—a dense, Italian ice cream made with less air than the American version. Their sorbetto is equally delicious for those who are dairy free. What we love? The flavors are made from scratch daily.

Note: The Fresh Batch cafe is closed. The Freeport Public Market is now in it’s place. If you go Kamasouptra and Peachy’s Smoothie Cafe are definitely worth trying, and perfect for families looking for something simple, quick and satisfying. While the Cedar Works play set is no longer on site, the interior is much the same. 

The team visited The Fresh Batch, a new café in Freeport, to catch up with friends after a busy summer. The inviting space is colorful and fun. The walls are painted in bright shades of green. There are funky lighting fixtures from Portland’s Ember Grove Gallery throughout. And the most welcome highlight: a Cedar Works play set with a slide and bridge, so kids can play while they wait for their food to arrive.
