Big Book News

If you follow this blog, you might have noticed our posts have been sporadic for a long time. And while we’re not fond of relying on excuses, here’s a really good one: Mom Potato has spent the past two years working on a book with you, the Cute Potato reader in mind. The book, which is titled “The Maine Play Book: …

Meet Darcy Sauers: The Woman Behind the Portland Mom & Baby Expo

Flash back to nearly 11 years ago when MP was a new mom. Her go-to resources included a few friends who recently had babies, babycenter.com, a collection of parenting books on the bedside table and her obstetrician. If an event existed to expose her to everything her community had to offer new parents, she would have jumped at the chance …

CrateFull of Maine: Baby Edition

Our family is expecting a baby nephew (and cousin) any day now, so you can imagine our delight when we discovered Baby Crates from CrateFull of Maine – a new gift business started by Chris Avantaggio, Nathan O’Leary and John Turner. The three entrepreneurs, who run their own successful companies, namely LiveME, Mainely SEO and Traps Eyewear, began selling gift boxes filled …

Apple Day at Maine Audubon

There are family events we look forward to each fall, and despite how much our children have grown, the Apple Day celebration at Maine Audubon in Falmouth remains a favorite. CP#1 and #2 delight in making their own cider, listening to live music, and exploring the rolling trails along the marsh. This year promises to be one of the best …

Fort Williams & Portland Headlight

This beautiful stretch of September weather is impossible to ignore. We left our boxes behind last Sunday, and decided to enjoy a family picnic at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. MP also wanted to check out the Bite Into Maine food truck, which has received national attention for their lobster rolls, and the progress of The Fort Williams Arboretum. …

Friday Flash Giveaway

The Cute Potato family is feeling topsy turvy lately. We’re unpacking boxes every day (nearly 170 to get through, if you can believe). Plus, we’ve been busy with school meetings, soccer practice, dancing lessons, appointments, and adjusting to a new routine. All the team really wants to do is start making this house our own. The kids can’t wait to …

Our Show Your Love Fundraiser for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital was a big success! Thank you to all the wonderful people who donated their time and effort to make this event possible. Much gratitude goes to designer Vivian Page for the beautiful poster she created for the event. Many thanks to the businesses who donated to the fundraiser: Rainbow …

Giveaway Day #10: Children’s Classics from Islandport Press

Whenever MP drives on Route One in Yarmouth, past the modest office that houses Islandport Press, she feels so proud. How cool is it to live near a company that publishes the works of Dahlov Ipcar and Robert F. Baldwin? We love Dahlov Ipcar’s books for their vivid, unforgettable illustrations. Her stories capture the beauty and simplicity of everyday life. We …

Fun at the Yarmouth Clam Festival

Note: The 2015 Clam Festival, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, promises to be a blast! The parade, carnival, and horse drawn wagon rides remain highlights. In the Kids’ Area this year, look for magic shows, live music and balloon tying. Also, we have it on good authority that our friends at Islandport Press will be giving away 100 copies …

Two Maine Classics

During a recent visit to Kennebunkport, we discovered the fun and equally well-thought gift shop, Daytrip Society. While we were there, Mom and Dad Cute Potato purchased two great books for the family. The first of the two—The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle—is by Shapleigh author, Bruce McMillan. The story, about a young boy’s tricycle that escapes the village dump to …
