MP discovered these adorable, heirloom dolls on Instagram, and was so pleased to find they’re created at Sunflower Farm, a popular goat farm in our hometown of Cumberland, Maine. Lila Ray— who grew up on the farm and later returned with her husband, Ethan—needed a creative pastime while waiting for her baby girl, Max, to arrive. While Lila hadn’t sewn since she was a child, she decided to break out her old sewing machine and try making a doll for her daughter. The result was the sweet goat-inspired doll that led to her online shop, Max & Me.

Our family is expecting a baby nephew (and cousin) any day now, so you can imagine our delight when we discovered Baby Crates from CrateFull of Maine – a new gift business started by Chris Avantaggio, Nathan O’Leary and John Turner. The three entrepreneurs, who run their own successful companies, namely LiveME, Mainely SEO and Traps Eyewear, began selling gift boxes filled with a variety of Maine made items in December 2015. This year, they’re offering themed crates full of good things including Maine made sweets and handcrafted baby goods.

MP met Jessica Herling of Maine Girl Creations at a craft fair, and was taken with all of the lovely handmade items Jessica had for sale—from colorful, appliquéd onesies and stroller blankets to fun yoga bags and birthday banners.

Jessica started Maine Girl Creations only two years ago. The Brunswick-resident fuses her smart design and sewing skills to make the most charming gifts.
